{"id":310,"date":"2019-03-18T23:12:55","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T23:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bloginbasket.com\/?p=310"},"modified":"2021-04-24T18:15:21","modified_gmt":"2021-04-24T18:15:21","slug":"strifes-bane-by-evie-manieri-a-review-by-jeanette-greaves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bloginbasket.com\/?p=310","title":{"rendered":"Strife&#8217;s Bane by Evie Manieri \u2013 a review by Jeanette Greaves"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_311\" style=\"width: 209px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-311\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-311\" src=\"https:\/\/bloginbasket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/strifesbane-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bloginbasket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/strifesbane-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/bloginbasket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/strifesbane.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-311\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cover of Strife&#8217;s Bane<\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">OK, so there&#8217;s this jaded ex mercenary with a terrifying reputation, her drug addicted sister, her beloved who reluctantly finds himself half-way to godhood, an ancient priestess with nefarious plans for a land that is desperate for peace, and an ex-slave who is now a king, It&#8217;s the third book of a trilogy, there&#8217;s a nasty plague that seems to turn everyone into blood crazed zombies, flying steeds that aren&#8217;t quite dragons, magic swords, a prophecy (there has to be a prophecy), and a magic potion. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And teleportation. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">This pot has been simmering now for two books, and in Strife&#8217;s Bane it <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">bubbles<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> over. It&#8217;s an ambitious mix with a lot of characters and a lot of sub plots. The scale of the story is dealt with by changes in perspective that can be confusing \u2013 I struggled <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">at times <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> to differentiate between two red headed love interest characters. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the romp, and lost my heart to the book when the young king restrain<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">ed <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">his general from punishing insubordination from a <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">subject<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> by reminding him that the rule of law has to protect and punish everyone equally \u2013 if punishment can be handed out on a whim, nobody can ever feel safe. These days, that strikes home hard. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #181818;\"><span style=\"font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Strife&#8217;s Bane has a cast of likeable characters, and ties up the Shattered Kingdoms trilogy nicely.
